Incident affecting Directions API, Distance Matrix API, Routes API

29 Sep 2025	11:53 PDT	Summary: We are investigating a potential issue with routing products Description: We have completed mitigation efforts as of 2025-09-29 11:05 US/Pacific, which focused on optimizing capacity in the impacted service backends and improves reliability within our South American data center. Our Engineer team will be performing a postmortem and we have identified key follow-up items to further improve the reliability of the affected service in South America. We will provide a detailed update by Monday, 2025-09-29 13:00 US/Pacific. Diagnosis: Reduced API availability Workaround: None at this time.
29 Sep 2025	10:01 PDT	Summary: We are investigating a potential issue with routing products Description: After further investigation, we found that a service backend out of South America was resource constrained during increased traffic to the service. During this period of overload, a portion of the traffic spilled over temporarily into North American data centers, resulting in increased error rates and possible latency there as well. Our Engineering team have identified a few key mitigations including increasing capacity in the impacted backends. This work is underway by our Engineering team and we will follow up as soon as there is more to share. We will provide an update by Monday, 2025-09-29 12:30 US/Pacific. Diagnosis: Reduced API availability Workaround: None at this time.
