| 18 Nov 2014 | 22:04 PST | SUMMARY: On Tuesday 18 November, 2.2% of Cloud SQL instances hosted in European datacenters were unavailable for a duration of 18 minutes. We apologize if your instance was affected. We will be taking steps to improve the service’s availability as a result of this incident. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF IMPACT: On Tuesday 18 November from 06:32 to 06:50 PST, any Cloud SQL instance hosted in a European datacenterrestarted after attempting a write operation. Users trying to connect to affected instances during the incident received connection errors. ROOT CAUSE: A networking issue caused elevated packet loss to one European datacenter. Cloud SQL instances that attempted to replicate data to this datacenter restarted, causing them to become unavailable for the duration of the incident. REMEDIATION AND PREVENTION: Google’s network engineers detected the problem immediately after it occurred at 06:32. We implemented a fix for the networking problem at 06:48 and the packet loss stopped at 06:50. We will make changes to Cloud SQL to ensure that unavailability of a single datacenter in Europe does not cause instances to restart. |
